Tappy Monday 12/6/17

Today’s Tappy Monday is a bit late, but the happiness that the excellent Gloria Esenwein exudes should hopefully make up for it 🙂

There’s something so awesome about this number. The performers are awesome. The music is awesome. The setting is awesome. That plant(?) and the guitar case are awesome. The people who are watching are awesome.

Perhaps the most awesome thing about this number is the way Gloria taps. She starts off slow, a casual shuffle, a bit of soft-shoe, a bit vaudevillian (at least that’s how I see it), then she breaks out into a myriad of fleet-footed steps, picking up air when she needs to. It’s a wonderful crescendo but she never lets it get out of hand. Her movements are, as it were, most humble and sincere. She’s not showboating. She just lets the taps do the talking. And they say so much.

But not as much as the smile on her face. That says the most. Her grin starts off a little reserved, understated, a bit like her steps earlier in the piece, but then, at the 1.01 mark, blossoms into a full-blown, unrestrained portrait of utter enjoyment.

She just knows what she’s doing and she just loves what she’s doing. She’s a pro.

And it’s awesome.

God Bless,

CC
